Description of ZGSA Officier Positions
President: The president attends executive committee meetings ever week during the Spring and Fall semesters; alerts VP about any upcoming votes to be held at faculty meetings; runs monthly ZGSA meetings and unplanned meetings as needed; serves as a liaison between faculty and graduate students; sends out a welcoming letter to new graduate students; attends the beginning weeks of orientation seminar; helps graduate coordinator choose other appropriate graduate students to speak at orientation seminar.
Vice President: The vice-president attends weekly faculty meetings; polls graduate students before voting on issues that come up during the faculty meetings; otherwise acts as graduate student representative and casts votes; attends executive committee meetings in the absence of the president; assists president with orientation seminar duties and with welcome letter.
Secretary: The secretary takes minutes during ZGSA meetings; posts minutes on E-mail for students unable to attend; males 2-3 hard copies of announcements as well as email announcements of all upcoming ZGSA meetings; keeps track of polls of graduate students; conducts ZGSA elections; keeps updated and announces any in-house travel and research grants.
Undergraduate Committee: Representative is an active member of the faculty's undergraduate committee and reports to ZGSA on these meetings as needed.
Graduate Committee: Representative is an active member of the faculty's graduate committee and reports to ZGSA on these meetings as needed.
URAP: Representatives coordinates the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program each semester. Coordinates undergraduate research symposium at the end of the spring semester.
Welcoming Committee: Representatives sends a letter with information about Gainesville life, housing, etc. to incoming graduate students; plans the beginning-of-year picnic for department and incoming students.
Computer Committee: Representative acts as a liaison between ZSA and the faculty's computer committee. Maintains ZGSA Website, includes updating pages with new information. May provide technical support for graduate students.
Seminar Committee: Representative(s) sends out requests for seminar speakers and topics during spring semester for the following school year; handle slide projector during seminars; set up refreshment table before seminar.
GSC (Representative and Alternate): attends all Graduate Student Council meetings and report to the ZGSA (alternate substitutes for rep. when necessary).
Awards Committee: These individuals will be involved in the review of graduate student teaching award and paper award nominees and recommendation of award winners. The exact details of these positions are yet to be determined. However, the basic details are known. The committee will be comprised of three graduate students and three faculty. Committee members will be responsible for reading each of the nomination packets and participating in evaluation of nominees and election of winners. Attendance at committee meetings is mandatory.
